Around 25 researchers from the POLiS Cluster of Excellence and the Graduate School Electrochemical Energy Storage (GS-EES) had the great opportunity to visit the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research (ZSW) in Ulm – a key player in applied battery research and technology transfer in Germany.
Also in 2025, the Center for Electrochemical Energy Storage Ulm & Karlsruhe (CELEST) participated at Hannover Messe as co-exhibitor at the Baden-Württemberg Pavilion in the Energy for Industry area from 31 March to 4 April 2025. Besides the three research fields „Lithium-ion batteries“, „Post-lithium batteries“ and „Alternative electrochemical storage and conversion devices“, other relevant CELEST topics such as „Innovation & Transfer“, „Qualification & Training“ and „Communication“ were focused on.

On 15 October 2024, we had the opportunity to visit Leclanché Energy Storage Solutions in Willstätt and gain exciting insights into the industrial production of pouch cells during guided tours. We also had the opportunity to discuss with the plant manager Dr. Olaf Luche and Dr. Luca Schneider and to ask numerous questions.

In an effort to make the future production of battery cells (for uses such as electromobility or power tools) more flexible, researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) have set up an agile battery cell production system. Using a highly flexible robotic automation system, they have reached a level of flexibility previously achievable only with manual cell production. This will enable companies to adapt to new technologies and volatile markets more quickly and can boost Germany’s industrial competitiveness. The project received EUR 19 million in federal and state funding.

A group of around 25 researchers from the Cluster of Excellence POLiS recently visited one of the world's leading chemical companies BASF. The site in Ludwigshafen covers more than ten square kilometers, making it the world's largest integrated chemical facility.
POLiS presents itself together with CELEST on a booth at the Baden-Württemberg area at this year's Hannover Messe from April 17 to 21, 2023. The thematic focus of the fair this year is CO2-neutral production, energy management, AI and hydrogen.
