Technology Transfer
Technology Transfer
Through the close exchange and successful cooperation of its researchers with partners from industry, the cluster offers a targeted transfer to the sectors relevant to battery research in the areas of materials and product development as well as production technology. At the same time, the POLiS Cluster of Excellence benefits from the know-how of its industry contacts in order to facilitate the most application-oriented, industry-relevant research possible. Technology transfer is significantly promoted and accelerated by the following activities:
Organization of workshops and industry visits
The organization of industry workshops as well as visits and guided tours to industrial companies, such as BASF and IoLiTec-Ionic Liquids Technologies GmbH, has created a large network, the maintenance and active shaping of which forms the basis for industry transfer. This gives researchers exciting insights into industrial R&D activities and innovative production facilities, which promotes the transfer of knowledge from scientific research to industry.
Employees of industrial partners also have the opportunity to receive training on the laboratory infrastructure set up in the cluster, tailored to their own needs and subject areas.
Initiation of research projects for POLiS knowledge transfer
Thanks to close contacts with industry, doctoral students can also work on specific questions from companies in a targeted manner as part of joint research projects.
Presentation of cluster activities at trade fairs
POLiS is regularly represented at major trade fairs such as the Hannover Messe, where it presents relevant results from the cluster and establishes contacts with industry, which can lead to more in-depth cooperation and joint projects.
Training measures for successful career paths
For example, researchers receive comprehensive support and assistance with strategic IP management and the initiation of innovation and technology transfer projects. Mentoring for inventors is also offered.
Support with spin-offs and invention disclosures
Technology Transfer Management is also available to answer questions relating to spin-offs and start-ups, provide advice and establish contacts through the broad industrial network, including alumni. In addition, researchers are supported in the area of patent processing and registration (approx. 25 patents to date during the first POLiS funding phase, which is still ongoing). This also strengthens the direct transfer of knowledge and technology to industry.
"From material to innovation" - interface to the umbrella concept of battery research
The POLiS technology transfer supports this through close networking with the BMBF competence clusters FestBatt for solid-state battery research and InZePro for intelligent battery cell production. In addition to know-how, an excellent infrastructure for battery research has been established within the framework of the competence clusters, which is available to POLiS researchers. Furthermore, the interfaces to the competence clusters offer the ideal opportunity to further develop the basic knowledge gained in the cluster as part of joint projects with industrial partners, thereby ensuring commercial exploitation.
Patent Analysis
Based on a comprehensive patent analysis, a database was created to colled a wide range of property rights for novel material and process developments in the context of post-lithium battery cells.
