"Ulmer Köpfchen" accolade goes to Maximilian Fichtner
The "Ulmer Köpfchen" honors people whose work makes a special contribution to society. This year it goes to Maximilian Fichtner, spokesperson of POLiS – Cluster of Excellence. He is also director at Helmholtz Institute Ulm (HIU) and heads the "Solid State Chemistry" research group there. In this interdisciplinary activity, novel, sustainable and powerful battery systems beyond the lithium-ion battery are being developed. Research into these lithium-free batteries is based on alternative, sustainably available and non-toxic raw materials such as sodium, magnesium, zinc, aluminum or calcium. This work is laying the foundation for a new battery world.
Maximilian Fichtner is also a regular guest in the battery podcast "Geladen – der Batteriepodcast", which was launched by his colleagues Daniel Messling and Patrick von Rosen and is now the largest chemistry podcast in Germany.
